Maruba Resort & Jungle Spa is located in the heart of the Mayan Rainforest of Belize, an area filled with rich culture and history. There are many small unexcavated sights waiting to be discovered and other larger excavated sights with documented history. Cuello, about 25 miles north of the resort, is the oldest Maya sight dating back to 2500 B.C.. Colha, about 6 miles north, was an eccentric flint work shop and the site where the oldest remnants of chocolate were found in a ceramic vessel. There is Kichpanha, the snail eaters, about 15 miles from Maruba. Kelly’s pond is across the street from the resort where local farmers farm the old Maya farm fields. Mammy Ridge with looters trenches into tombs. Nohmul with its large pre-classic temples that where recently partially destroyed by stone quarriers exposing tombs and corval arches 70 feet in the air.
