Maruba was established in 1986 by Dr. Merickston Nicholson M.D., an oncologist from Trinidad & Tobago, and his wife Anna Nicholson, a fashion designer from Austria.
Dr. & Mrs. Nicholson along with their four children began their journey of building Maruba Resort from the Mayan Jungles of Belize. Their passion and zest for life and art along with their unquestionable love for nature can be seen in every area of the resort.
Maruba Resort Jungle Spa started as the first spa in the country of Belize and is embedded in its culture and history. Combination of Mayan, Creole and African decor, hand carved art from local artisans in the surrounding Villages,

Reviewed: August 15, 2011“This resort is mix and match of tropical and rustic worlds. Interesting paths to follow to find your room, the hot tubs and various pavillions. The dining area is like from a movie set: good food, fancy drinks and lovely table decor. One can even lunch in a high rise tree house loft! Probably the best novelty is the resting area near the pools with canopy beds. Cute enough, are the hundreds of hybiscus flowers placed daily almost everywhere, even in the bathrooms! Day visits are also possible.”
